La Promenade Plantée

Now that we’re having such spectacular weather, it’s hard to tie myself down in front of the computer and work. But then I rationalized, telling myself that there are people out there counting on me to go out and take pictures to post here. It’s tough duty, but someone has to do it.

For those of you haven’t visited the Promenade Plantée, it’s a lovely walk, going all the way from Place de la Bastille to the Périphérique. Along roughly half of its length, the Promenade runs atop the Viaduc des Arts, a former railway viaduct which now houses shops and artists’ studios. It continues at ground level along the route of an old railroad.

I hadn’t been there in several years, and the last time I visited, it was not at this time of year, so I was delighted by all the flowers in bloom. There is an abundance of roses, as seen above and below.

The Promenade is an agreeable green space in the midst of bustling Paris, serving as a place of repose or, as in the case of the gentleman above, a convenient thoroughfare.

The canal runs along part of the length of the Promenade Plantée.

Purple irises provide a vivid contrast along the canal.

And yet more irises. Indulge me, it’s one of my favorite flowers. I wonder if that’s one of the reasons I love Art Nouveau so much.

  1. Sometime a photographic peek at the underground artists’ studios would be nice — perhaps at a time when the flowers are no longer in bloom above?!

  2. Good suggestion, anniemousette!
