Attention! New York Area Fashionistas
This is exciting! However, before I tell you about it, full disclosure: although I received my diploma from Christie’s Education in Paris, I have no connection with and receive no financial benefit from the venerable auction house of the same name.
As part of its Interiors sale on 1-2 July, Christie’s Rockefeller Center will be selling a selection of vintage couture, including pieces by Mainbocher, Versace, Balenciaga, Thierry Mugler, Christian Lacroix, Courrèges and Hermès.
Of special note, the sale, held a month to the day (plus one) after his demise, will include seven pieces designed by Yves Saint Laurent, including a dusty pink evening dress with pink metallic and silver embroidery created in 1958 for Dior. A camel cable knit sweater with fox collar and cuffs by YSL Rive Gauche, a style favored by Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, is estimated at $250-400. Given its association with two iconic fashion figures, I wouldn’t be surprised to see the bidding on that one become fast and furious.

Wonderful! Sounds like a sale worthy of attending even if it is just to look!
I have never had a look on the christie site but that was fascinating Jan! I was not surprised about the Versace estimates and they will go for more but the Jackie O jumper – well, if they could say SHE owned it – well , it would go like a bomb! You know, you could wear that jumper right now and not look dated.
What took my fancy? The Daum crystal! I love Daum and Galle and when I win the lottery – I am buying some! LOL
katiehull, if I were in NY, I would certainly like to see at least the exhibition.
ladyjicky, to be fair, Sotheby’s also has a very good site.
I love Daum and Gallé, too, but then I love glass, and particularly Art Nouveau.
Have you seen Cardins collection in his restaurant Maxims Jan? I wanted to go but he does not have a lift and I could not climb the stairs – I believe he has “some” collection there!
I haven’t been there, ladyjicky, although I’ve seen lots of pictures. Usually, when I need an Art Nouveau fix, I go either to the Musée d’Orsay or to private galleries.
There is some good Art Nouveau architecture here, but nothing copared to Brussels, where I saw some wonderful things. Unfortunately, a lot of the AN buildings here were destroyed, as they were considered “old fashioned” when Art Déco came along.
However, there’s always the Métro. A wonderful building, in the 16th arrondissement, is Castel Béranger, an apartment building. Unfortunately, I haven’t seen the interior. I have to meet someone who lives there.
I have a wonderful book I bought in 1978 published by Rizzoil
PARIS 1900-it includes furniture, buildings, metro stops,
restos, homes.
I’m going to be on the lookout for that one, cigalechanta.
